2022- 2023 has been a difficult period for coffee farms, due to world demand, and inflation, and Ethiopia hasn't been as good as in 2017-2019. Roasters are forced to purchase alternatives. Even coffee from a reliable source such as Primrose, not all coffee is what are we looking for. We know you guys are looking out for floral coffees. This year we focus on purchasing late-harvest crops with multi-layer taste notes. This Chelbesa coffee, in my opinion, is good. We tried omni roast for the filter and espresso manual machine it was super floral and clean.
It takes 4-5 days for the flavor to peak. Perfect for Filter and Espresso brew.
Grown in the well-known Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, this coffee comes from a collection of smallholder producers in the microregion of Chelbesa and is processed at the Gargari Washing Station.
Coffee is a family crop – grown by households within small gardens, on less than one hectare of land. Producers line their homes with coffee trees, and it is the primary source of income. It is common for producers to intercrop enset, the Ethiopian banana, avocados, and papaya to have additional food sources.
Although this is an ancient and rich coffee-producing region; producers are still facing threats such as climate change and alterations in the environment. Additionally, as the climate shifts to warmer and moister conditions – it is creating a more habitable area for the Coffee Berry Borer, a common coffee pest in Ethiopia. On top of that, producers also struggle with the fluctuating market and high input costs.
